Since moving to North America in my early 20s, Las Vegas hasn’t really been high on my travel wishlist. I guess, in my mind, this city was just a party place and nothing more. I just came back from my first trip there and boy, was I wrong! I was captivated by its grandeur and liveliness, and mesmerized by all this city had to offer! One of my friends that visited a couple of years ago said it’s like Disneyland for adults, and I know now what she meant by that. Even though others may have different ideas about how to make the most of such a trip, I wanted to share my take on how to spend five days in Las Vegas and experience as much as possible while there!
What to do
Walk the whole Vegas strip
This requires a few hours, and the most comfortable shoes and clothes you own. I was blown away by the diversity of the hotels and their themes, the lights and music around the city. Everything is so alive! I loved exploring the interiors of few of those hotels too. I felt like each was a different experience on its own!
Experience one of Vegas’ big nightclubs (if you are into it!)
I happened to go to “XS” at the Wynn on the first night I arrived, and it was crazy busy! Over a few hours, the outside pool filled up with people, while the featured artist of that night (Kygo, for the connoisseurs) was still to perform. It was fun, but I was so tired after the flight that I had to end it sooner than I would have liked. But it was a great experience, nonetheless!
Lounge by the hotel’s pool
If you have that option, it’s a great way to relax and enjoy one or several cocktails. I stayed at Encore, which is part of the Wynn resort, and there were different pool options available. What better way to relax than this? 🙂
Try your luck at the casino
You can’t leave Vegas without trying your luck at the casino. Take your pick, you’ll never be left without options! I’m personally not a big fan of this activity, but I like it a bit just for fun! 🙂
Where to eat
I recommend trying at least one fancy restaurant, if possible. I had an amazing culinary experience while there.
Gordon Ramsay Burger
I hadn’t been to any of his famous restaurants until now. Although the wait in line was a bit more than half an hour, it was all worth it! They don’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait in line. The food was exceptional, but that was to be expected from Gordon Ramsay!
Sinatra (at Encore)
This is a gorgeous and elegant Italian restaurant that is all about Sinatra. Absolutely delicious food and the decor was lovely too. An amazing dinner with Sinatra’s music in the background, this restaurant is a must-try!
Jardin (at Encore)
I can’t say enough about how much I loved the dishes and the atmosphere of this restaurant! They also have a terrace outside by the pool, and that’s where I chose to enjoy my dinner that evening. From their absolutely delicious cocktails to the perfectly crafted dishes, make sure to check out this restaurant! And if you do, give the truffle pizza a try – you’ll thank me later! 😉
The Buffet (at Wynn) or any other buffet of your choice
I can only speak from experiencing The Buffet at Wynn, which was really remarkable. Yes, a buffet is a buffet, nothing special you might say, but this place had delicious dishes beyond my expectations. Also, I must mention, their interior decor was so beautiful, as everything else is in that resort!
What to experience
The dancing fountains at the Bellagio
Everybody’s heard of them and some have seen them too. It’s definitely an experience and a must-see if you happen to visit Las Vegas. It’s a beautiful show that starts every 15 minutes, so you can see at least twice if you have time. To me, it was impressive, as I remember seeing a video of them while growing up in Romania, and it brought out so many emotions back then. I never knew they existed until that moment, and seeing them for real, many years later, was surreal!
Catch a Vegas show
Regardless of what you’re looking for in a show, you can surely find everything in Vegas! I chose to go see Pen & Teller on the last day there, which was great, but, of course, photos weren’t permitted during the performance. They both came out into the theater lobby at the end of the show to greet fans though, which I thought was lovely! I also experienced ‘Lake of Dreams‘ at Wynn, which is an amazing water and lights show on a lake, all while sipping a cocktail on the terrace 🙂
Take a nighttime helicopter ride
This has totally been the highlight of the trip for me! I’ve never been in a helicopter before, but experiencing this and seeing the gorgeous city view from above was magical! If you haven’t done this yet, I highly recommend it. It’s one of those things that will stay with you. The price for a 15 min trip was below $100, but gets higher for longer trips (such as the Grand Canyon at sunset, which is already planned for the next year… or at least in my mind!). I get goose bumps just remembering that feeling I had. As I said – it stays with you! 🙂
The view from the High Roller Observation Wheel at Linq
This is another great not-to-be-missed experience! The Wheel is huge and it will give you the best Las Vegas view (apart from the one on the helicopter). For a more fun approach, you can get tickets that include an open bar while on the wheel, so you have 30 min to keep ordering drinks while enjoying a gorgeous ride.
There you have it! I hope you’ll find these helpful for your next (or first) trip to Las Vegas. Coming up next, I’ll review the hotel and share a few of my outfits from the trip!
Have you been to Las Vegas yet? If you have, let me know if there’s something I might’ve missed in this post. If you haven’t, is this place on your travel wishlist?
Hope everyone is having a wonderful week! 🙂
